Erlangen

Erlangen is a city in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, north of Nuremberg. From 1686 the Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth built a planned new town there for Huguenot refugees from France. In 1743 the university founded by Margrave Frederick was moved to Erlangen, and it remains a major university town. In the 20th century it became a centre of the Siemens electrical company.
