Abu'l-Abbas Ma'mun

d. 1017 · 11th century · Also known as Ma'mun II

Abu'l-Abbas Ma'mun, Ma'mun II, was Khwarazmshah of the Ma'munid dynasty from 1009 to 1017, ruling from Gurganj. He continued his brother Ali's patronage of scholars, among them al-Biruni and, for a time, Ibn Sina. Pressed by his brother-in-law Mahmud of Ghazni to accept his overlordship, he was killed by his own troops in 1017, and Mahmud then conquered Khwarazm.
