Acciaiuoli family
The Acciaiuoli were a Florentine family of merchant-bankers who rose to prominence in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Their company, one of the great firms of the age alongside those of the Bardi and Peruzzi, traded and lent across Europe and served the papacy and the Angevin kings of Naples, but it failed in 1345 after royal defaults. A branch of the family later ruled the Duchy of Athens from 1388 to 1458.
