Africa Nova

46–c. 27 BCE · 1st century BCE

Africa Nova, 'New Africa', was the Roman province created by Julius Caesar in 46 BCE from the eastern part of the Kingdom of Numidia after his victory at Thapsus; the historian Sallust was its first governor. It was later merged with the older province of Africa Vetus to form Africa Proconsularis, one of the richest grain-producing provinces of the empire.
