Battle of Thapsus

46 BCE · 1st century BCE · Part of the Caesar's Civil War

The Battle of Thapsus was fought on 6 April 46 BCE near Thapsus, on the coast of present-day Tunisia, between Julius Caesar and the Pompeian forces of Metellus Scipio, supported by King Juba I of Numidia. Caesar's decisive victory destroyed the republican cause in Africa, and Cato, Juba and other leaders took their own lives. Caesar then annexed much of Numidia as the province of Africa Nova.
