Afrikaner Bond

1880–1911 · 19th century

The Afrikaner Bond was a political organisation founded in 1880 to promote the interests of Afrikaners in southern Africa. In the Cape Colony, under Jan Hofmeyr, it became the main party of Dutch-speaking farmers and supported Cecil Rhodes's ministry from 1890 until the Jameson Raid of 1895–1896 broke the alliance. It merged into the South African Party after Union.
