Autocracy
Autocracy is a system of government in which supreme power is held by a single ruler, unconstrained by legal or institutional limits. The Russian tsars explicitly claimed autocratic power, and resistance to reform contributed to the Russian Empire's fall. Elements of autocratic rule are also discussed for the Roman Empire, the Mamluk Sultanate and the Oyo Empire.
