Person
Agila I
Agila I was king of the Visigoths in Hispania from 549 to 554. A defeat at Córdoba early in his reign and his harsh rule provoked the revolt of the noble Athanagild, who called on the Byzantine emperor Justinian for help. Agila was murdered by his own men at Mérida in 554, and Athanagild became king.
