Athanagild
Athanagild was king of the Visigoths from 554 to 567. He rebelled against King Agila I and sought help from the Byzantine emperor Justinian, whose forces then seized a coastal strip of south-eastern Hispania. He made Toledo his residence, and his daughters Brunhilda and Galswintha married the Frankish kings Sigebert I and Chilperic I.
