Person
Sigebert I
Sigebert I was the Merovingian king of Austrasia from 561, when the kingdom of his father Chlothar I was divided among his sons, until 575. He married the Visigothic princess Brunhilda, and her rivalry with Fredegund, wife of his half-brother Chilperic I of Neustria, fuelled a long civil war. He was assassinated at Vitry, reportedly on Fredegund's orders, at the moment of victory over Chilperic.
