Agordat

Also known as Akordat

Agordat is a town in western Eritrea on the Barka River. Italian forces defeated the Mahdists of Sudan there in 1890 and 1893, and the Italian railway from Massawa through Asmara and Keren was extended to it in the 1920s. It was the scene of fighting between British and Italian forces in early 1941.
