Ahar (Iran)
Ahar is a city in East Azerbaijan province of north-western Iran, north-east of Tabriz, the main town of the Qaradagh or Arasbaran region. It is known for the shrine of the 13th-century Sufi Sheikh Shihab al-Din Ahari, a complex enlarged under the Safavids. After 1747 it was the seat of the khans of Qaradagh, until Qajar Iran absorbed the khanate.
