Aircraft carrier

Also known as fleet carriers

An aircraft carrier is a warship designed to carry, launch and recover aircraft, serving as a mobile air base at sea. The Empire of Japan built one of the world's most capable carrier fleets in the interwar years and used it in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The loss of four fleet carriers at the Battle of Midway in 1942 was a turning point in Japan's war in the Pacific.
