Battle of Midway

1942 · 20th century · Also known as Midway · Part of the Second World War

The Battle of Midway was a naval and air battle fought in June 1942 near Midway Atoll in the central Pacific during the Second World War. United States forces sank four Japanese fleet carriers, inflicting losses the Empire of Japan could not replace. The battle is widely seen as the turning point of the Pacific War, after which Japan was largely on the defensive.
