Aja people
The Aja are a Gbe-speaking people of southern Benin and Togo, related to the Fon and Ewe. Their traditional centre was Tado, near the Mono river in Togo, from which migrants are said to have founded Allada, and the royal houses of Dahomey and Porto-Novo in turn traced their origins to Allada. The Aja remain a large community in Benin's Couffo region.
