Porto-Novo

Porto-Novo is a port city on the coast of present-day Benin, now its official capital. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it was an outlet for the Atlantic slave trade. Captives taken by the Oyo Empire's cavalry were sold to European traders there and at Ouidah.
