Akal Takht

The Akal Takht is the highest seat of temporal authority in Sikhism, located in the Golden Temple complex at Amritsar. It was established in the early seventeenth century by Guru Hargobind. In the Sikh Empire it served as a centre of religious and political assembly and symbolised the link between Sikh faith and sovereignty.
