859–911 · 9th century · Also known as Yahya ibn al-Husayn

Al-Hadi ila'l-Haqq Yahya ibn al-Husayn was the founder of the Zaydi imamate of Yemen. A descendant of the Prophet's grandson al-Hasan from the Hejaz, he came to Sa'dah in 897 at the invitation of feuding tribes, settled their disputes and set up a state there. His writings founded the Hadawi school of Zaydi law, and imams claiming his legacy ruled in Yemen until 1962.
