Hadhrami Bedouin Legion

1939–1967 · 20th century

The Hadhrami Bedouin Legion was a British-officered force raised in 1939 in the Eastern Aden Protectorate, modelled on the Arab Legion of Transjordan. Recruited mainly from Bedouin tribes, it kept order in the Qu'aiti and Kathiri sultanates of Hadramawt, guarding roads, wells and forts. It ceased to serve the sultans in 1967, when the National Liberation Front took over Hadramawt and the sultanates fell.
