National Liberation Front (South Yemen)

1963–1978 · 20th century

The National Liberation Front was a Marxist-leaning nationalist movement that fought British rule in Aden and the protectorates from 1963. In 1967 it defeated its rival FLOSY, overthrew the sultans and sheikhs of the Federation of South Arabia, and proclaimed the People's Republic of South Yemen when the British withdrew in November. It later became the core of the Yemeni Socialist Party.
