Amapá

Amapá is a state in the far north of Brazil, between the Amazon estuary and French Guiana, with its capital at Macapá. The land between the Oyapock and Araguari rivers was disputed between France and Brazil until Swiss arbitration awarded it to Brazil in 1900. It became a federal territory in 1943, known for manganese mining, and a state in 1988.
