Amanyanabo
Amanyanabo, meaning owner of the town, is the title of the traditional rulers of the Ijaw city-states of the eastern Niger Delta, such as Kalabari, Bonny, Nembe and Okrika. The Amanyanabo ruled with the heads of the trading houses that dominated the slave and later palm-oil trade with Europeans. The office survives, and the rulers remain important figures in Rivers and Bayelsa states of Nigeria.
