Ambodifotatra
Ambodifotatra is the main town of Île Sainte-Marie, or Nosy Boraha, an island off the north-east coast of Madagascar. France reoccupied the island in 1818 and built a base there for trade and for its claims on Madagascar. The town keeps a 19th-century French fort and one of the oldest Catholic churches in Madagascar, and a nearby cemetery recalls the island's pirate past.
