French East India Company
The French East India Company was a chartered trading company founded in 1664 under Louis XIV's minister Colbert. It established posts in India, notably Pondicherry, and competed with the British East India Company, but lost out in the wars of the mid-eighteenth century, limiting the French Empire's role in India.
