Amphilochian Argos

Also known as Argos Amphilochikon

Amphilochian Argos was an ancient Greek city at the south-eastern corner of the Ambracian Gulf, in western Greece, the chief town of the Amphilochians. Legend named the hero Amphilochus as its founder. During the Peloponnesian War it was attacked by Ambracia, and in 426 BCE the Athenian general Demosthenes and the Acarnanians defeated the Ambraciots nearby at Olpae and Idomene.
