Anastasius I Dicorus
Anastasius I was emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire from 491 to 518. A palace official chosen by the widowed empress Ariadne, he reformed the coinage and taxation, leaving a large surplus in the treasury, and fought a war with Persia from 502 to 506. His sympathy for Miaphysite views provoked revolts, and his treaty of around 502 made the Ghassanids the empire's leading Arab allies.
