Person
Anthony Sherley
Anthony Sherley was an English adventurer who travelled to the court of Abbas I of Persia in 1598 with his brother Robert. He served the shah as an envoy to European courts seeking alliance against the Ottomans. The Sherley brothers are traditionally associated with Safavid efforts to modernise the army with firearms and artillery, although the extent of their role is debated.
