Diyarbakir
Diyarbakir, the ancient Amida, is a city in south-eastern Anatolia on the upper Tigris. It was a key fortress on the frontier between Rome and Persia, captured by the Sasanian Empire under Shapur II in 359 CE after a siege. Much later the Safavid Empire lost it to the Ottomans after the Battle of Chaldiran.
