Antibes
Antibes is a town on the French Riviera between Cannes and Nice. It began as Antipolis, a Greek trading settlement founded by Massalia, facing the Ligurian peoples of the hills behind it. When the Deciates and Oxybii besieged it in 154 BCE, Rome intervened on Massalia's behalf. It later became a Roman town and, in modern times, a fortified French port on the border with Savoyard Nice.
