Antiochus XIII Asiaticus

d. c. 64 BCE · 1st century BCE

Antiochus XIII Asiaticus was the last king of the Seleucid dynasty, son of Antiochus X and Cleopatra Selene. After the Roman general Lucullus drove Tigranes of Armenia out of Syria in 69 BCE, he was recognised as king, but his rule was weak and contested. In 64 BCE Pompey deposed him and made Syria a Roman province, and he was soon killed by an Arab ruler of Emesa.
