Apostolic Palace

Also known as Papal Palace

The Apostolic Palace is the official residence of the pope in Vatican City, beside St. Peter's Basilica. Built largely from the 15th and 16th centuries, it contains the papal apartments, offices of the Holy See, the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms and the Vatican Library. Popes have lived there since their return from Avignon, though some recent popes chose other residences.
