Arab–Khazar wars

The Arab–Khazar wars were a series of conflicts in the seventh and eighth centuries between the Khazar Khaganate and the Umayyad and early Abbasid caliphates over control of the Caucasus. Both sides launched major invasions through the mountain passes. The wars halted Arab expansion north of the Caucasus and established the Khazars as a major regional power.
