Archilochus
Archilochus was a Greek lyric poet from the island of Paros, active in the 7th century BCE and regarded in antiquity as the master of iambic verse. He took part in the Parian colonisation of Thasos, and his surviving fragments speak of war, love and abuse of enemies in a personal voice new to Greek poetry. His mention of a total solar eclipse, probably that of 648 BCE, helps to date his life.
