Arduin of Ivrea

c. 955–1015 · 10th century

Arduin of Ivrea was margrave of Ivrea in north-western Italy who was elected King of Italy by Italian nobles in 1002, after the death of Emperor Otto III. Opposed by the bishops and by the German king Henry II, he held out until 1014, when he abdicated and retired to a monastery. He was the last native king of Italy before the 19th century.
