c. 900–966 · 10th century · Also known as Berengar of Ivrea

Berengar II of Italy was margrave of Ivrea who seized the Italian crown with his son Adalbert in 950. His imprisonment of Queen Adelaide brought the German king Otto I into Italy, and in 952 Berengar had to accept Otto as overlord and cede the marches of Verona and Friuli. Otto deposed him in 961, and he died a prisoner in Bamberg.
