Friuli
Friuli is a historical region of north-eastern Italy between the Alps, the Adriatic and the Isonzo, now part of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It takes its name from the Roman town of Forum Iulii, modern Cividale. It was a Lombard duchy and a Carolingian march, then largely ruled by the Patriarchate of Aquileia until Venice conquered it in 1420.
