Argishtihinili

founded c. 776 BCE · 8th century BCE

Argishtihinili was a Urartian city founded by Argishti I around 776 BCE on the Ararat plain, near modern Armavir in Armenia. Built on two fortified hills, it became a major administrative and agricultural centre irrigated by royal canals. It remained occupied after the fall of Urartu and later became the site of Armavir, an early Armenian royal capital.
