Argishti II

r. c. 714–685 BCE · 8th century BCE

Argishti II was king of Urartu from about 714 to 685 BCE, succeeding his father Rusa I after Sargon II of Assyria's devastating campaign of 714 BCE. He restored royal authority and campaigned to the east, leaving inscriptions as far as the region of Lake Urmia and the Ararat plain, but he avoided direct conflict with Assyria.
