Arslantepe

Arslantepe is an archaeological mound near Malatya in eastern Turkey, the site of ancient Melid. Settled from at least the fifth millennium BCE, it held a palace complex of the late fourth millennium with some of the oldest known swords. In the early first millennium BCE it was the citadel of a Neo-Hittite kingdom, whose lion gate and reliefs are now in Ankara. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
