Arsuf

Arsuf is the site of an ancient and medieval town on the Mediterranean coast north of modern Herzliya, Israel, known in antiquity as Apollonia. Taken by the crusaders in 1101, it was the seat of a lordship of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and in 1191 Richard I defeated Saladin nearby. The Mamluk sultan Baybars captured and destroyed it in 1265, and its ruins form Apollonia National Park.
