Richard I of England
Richard I of England, known as Richard the Lionheart, was King of England from 1189 to 1199 and a leading commander of the Third Crusade. He fought Saladin's forces in the Levant, taking part in the capture of Acre and winning victories on the coast, but did not retake Jerusalem. Accounts of the Ayyubid Empire discuss his campaigns as the principal Crusader challenge to Saladin, which ended with the Treaty of Jaffa in 1192.
