Artanuji

Also known as Ardanuç

Artanuji is a medieval fortress town in the historic Georgian region of Klarjeti, today Ardanuç in Artvin Province, north-eastern Turkey. Traditionally founded by King Vakhtang Gorgasali, it was rebuilt in the early 9th century by the Bagratid prince Ashot I and became the centre of Bagratid power in Tao-Klarjeti, from which the dynasty later unified Georgia.
