Arte della Lana
The Arte della Lana was the wool guild of Florence, one of the city's seven major guilds. Its members organised the manufacture of woollen cloth from imported English and later Spanish wool, employing thousands of wage workers in spinning, weaving and finishing, which made cloth the basis of Florence's medieval wealth. The guild also oversaw the building of Florence Cathedral, and its labourers led the Ciompi revolt of 1378.
