Ashir
Ashir was a fortified town in the Titteri mountains of central Algeria, founded around 936 by the Sanhaja chief Ziri ibn Manad with the approval of the Fatimid caliph. It was the first seat of the Zirid family, who served the Fatimids from there, and remained a regional centre after the Zirids moved to Ifriqiya in 972. Its ruins lie in present-day Médéa province.
