Ashvaghosha

c. 80–c. 150 CE · 2nd century · Also known as Aśvaghoṣa

Ashvaghosha was an Indian Buddhist philosopher, dramatist and poet, regarded as one of the first great masters of classical Sanskrit poetry. His Buddhacarita, an epic life of the Buddha, and the Saundarananda are the best-known works attributed to him. Later Buddhist tradition places him at the court of the Kushan emperor Kanishka, although the association cannot be confirmed.
