Asir
Asir is a mountainous region of south-western Arabia between the Hejaz and Yemen, now a province of Saudi Arabia with its capital at Abha. Its highlands catch monsoon rains and support terraced farming. It joined the first Saudi state in the early 19th century, then was ruled by local emirs, the Ottomans and the Idrisid Emirate of Asir before being absorbed by Saudi Arabia in the 1920s and 1930s.
