Monsoon

The monsoon is a seasonal reversal of winds that brings heavy summer rains to South and South-East Asia. Monsoon rains governed agriculture and seaborne trade across the region. Accounts of the Khmer Empire suggest that prolonged droughts and intense monsoon variability may have strained the hydraulic system at Angkor and contributed to its decline.
