Aspasioi

4th century BCE · 4th century BCE · Also known as Aspasians

The Aspasioi were a people of the hill valleys north-east of the Kabul river, in the region of the Kunar and Bajaur, whom Alexander the Great fought in 327 BCE. Arrian describes fierce resistance in which Alexander was wounded and large herds of cattle were captured. Some scholars connect their name with Iranian words for horse and identify them as a Kamboja group.
