Atenism

Atenism was the religion promoted by the pharaoh Akhenaten in the fourteenth century BCE, centred on the worship of the Aten, the sun disc. It sidelined the traditional gods, especially Amun, and closed or neglected their temples. It was abandoned after Akhenaten's death, and the Egyptian New Kingdom returned to traditional religion.
