Atoni

Also known as Atoin Meto, Dawan

The Atoni, or Atoin Meto, are the largest people of West Timor, Indonesia, speaking the Uab Meto language. Traditionally they lived in dispersed hamlets in the mountains, growing maize and rice, and were organised in domains under rulers with ritual and political roles, such as Sonbai, Amanuban and Amarasi. Most converted to Christianity in the 20th century.
